New Horizon Bass Anglers Youth Foundation is an organization founded for the express purpose of teaching young people to fish and enjoy the outdoor environment.

This goal is accomplished by holding two (2) Kid’s Fishing Derbies each year. The derbies are held at Lake Fairfax, a Fairfax County Park and are open to all kids, age 15 and under, at no charge.

The format in these derbies is catch, photograph and release.  As the kids catch fish, they are brought to the various weigh stations around the lake, measured and released back into the lake, alive.  This helps to teach the kids to preserve, protect and respect the fish that swim in our waters.

After the fishing ends, each kid is fed a nourishing lunch while waiting for the results to be tabulated.

All kids participating in the events receive a “Goody Bag” filled with fishing tackle suitable for their age group.  The top ten winners in each age group also receive additional prizes with the first place winner in each age group receiving a fully stocked tackle box, a rod and reel combo, landing net, bait bucket and a fishing trip on the Chesapeake Bay with our affiliated charter captain.

In addition to the Kids Fishing Derbies, we also provide fishing instruction and supervision for various Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Cub Scout groups as well  as community youth groups.  Generally, this also includes furnishing equipment for the event.

The Foundation positively touches the lives of about 600 kids each year.

The Foundation is always looking for contributions to help further the mission of the organization.
